Confession: I have grown tired of 95% of the “New School”
…. don’t try to put me on anything, don’t tell me anybody is “fucking cold” and don’t “swear by” any rappers of this generation …. I probably won’t like whatever it is you’re attempting to put me on …. I have gone back and forth about DOM KENNEDY and CURT@IN$ and have not heard anything that get’s me geeked about their music …. until now. Came across this song while I was on Twitter and this is a certified banger ! From the flows to production to even the video …. good job dudes, you’re helping my faith in rappers float back up from “non-exsistant to “low” …. Put your friends on this shiz right hurr !
Starting next week I’m bringing in some DJ friends of mine to help me brighten our afternoons here at the store every Friday …. Here’s a very well put together EP from Naledge’s young protege VIC MENSA …. I’ve heard some stuff from him in the past and have been impressed with his freestyle tracks but with this work he showcases his ability to put together a cohesive collection of tracks that may come off a bit Drake-ish upon first listening but still good music with substance from someone who FINALLY doesn’t sound like *a rapper that just decided he was going to rap one day because they know how words that rhyme and how to bite someone elses style* (which would be 80% of young rappers I hear today) …. This week’s RECORD BREAKERS isn’t so much a display of technical craftsmanship but more so my post Green Fest energy in Youtube form …. As some of you know KLEVER was headlining Saturday’s Green Fest festival at Chicago/Noble on the DJ stage …. I was there to see one of my favorite DJ’s and someone who has influenced me greatly and MAN was I not disappointed …. Homie snapped hard ! Above you can get a pretty good idea of what his live sets are like seeing as how this was similar to what he did Saturday but in NO WAY gives you an idea of what he threw down …. I was so hyped after that I walked all the way to Crocodile where Manny Muscles, DJ Trew and I tore the shit down ! Anyways …. If anybody has a favorite DJ the wanna post OR knows where some footy of Green Fest is floating around please share ….
To go along with the other series “RECORD BREAKERS” I’m starting HOUSE TUESDAYS where I’m bringing you along on my journey to share and discover some house music classics …. Not having been born in Chicago I wasn’t brought up around a lot of House music but I have been falling in love with it over the years and spin it as much as possible …. So I am going to be posting some great cuts and please if you feel the need to leave a comment and put myself or others up on something I applaud that ! This weeks installment of RECORD BREAKERS showcasing some kid (I don’t know his name if you do lemme know!) snapping his ass off at a Skribble Jam a few years ago …. He sets up a juggle at the last 30 seconds of his routine and surprises everyone when he transforms the horns to a very well known theme song …. The opponents face is super #treated ! Props to my homie Stefan Ponce on putting me on to this shit right here !
